Oleg Pikhurko’s talk on Squaring the Circle

This post continues our series of online seminars devoted to accessible presentations of some of the most significant mathematical theorems of the 21st century. I am delighted to report that today, 10 June 2026, Prof. Andrew Lobb and Prof. Joshua Greene delivered a nice joint lecture on Inscription Problems and Symplectic Geometry. If you missed the talk, the recording is now available on YouTube.

The next lecture in the series will take place on Prof. Oleg Pikhurko (University of Warwick, UK) will speak about the famous problem of squaring the circle. The problem asks whether a disk can be cut into finitely many pieces and rearranged to form a square of the same area. The talk will outline the history of this classical problem, from its ancient geometric origins to recent breakthroughs.
