Teaching Philosophy (Calculus II Course at UNM)
Teaching is more than a profession for me; it is a way of being a teacher I never had and creating opportunities for others to thrive. My goal as an educator is to ensure every student feels seen, valued, and empowered. Having spent much of my life in classrooms, I understand that not all students know why they are there or if they belong. My role is to help them find their purpose and confidence, equipping them not only with knowledge for their future careers but also with the self-assurance to grow as individuals.
The impact of a teacher in a student’s life is often underestimated. Students are not just here to absorb information; they are here to be inspired, challenged, and supported. To be a good teacher is to be a compassionate person who enriches others’ lives. I strive to ignite a joy for learning, never to diminish it. I firmly believe education should open doors for everyone, enabling each generation to pave the way for the next.
In my classroom, whether teaching a small Calculus II course or another subject, I pour my heart and mind into sharing all the knowledge I have. I am committed to continually expanding my own skills and expertise to provide my students with the best education possible. I see no limit to their potential—what they learn today could one day lead to extraordinary achievements, perhaps even a Nobel Prize. I never doubt their capacity to succeed as I never doubt my capacity to succeed. And helping them achieve their dreams is perhaps the most beautiful thing I can do in life. Who didn’t have a dream? Who didn’t work days and nights for their passion?
As a teacher, I remain a student at heart. I understand the kind of educator my students need because I have been in their shoes. I strive to be that teacher: one who believes in them, encourages them, and helps them open doors to their futures. By teaching with dedication and empathy, I hope to inspire my students to carry forward the same passion for learning and opportunity.
